JAMES JOYCE - ULYSSES "What final visual impression was communicated to him by the mirror?
The optical reflection of several inverted volumes improperly arranged and not in the order of their common letters with scintillating titles on the two bookshelves opposite." - the passage continues by listing the books. This is my first rendering of how those books may have appeared. Not either sure if I want the right or the left to be the reflective state. With it being Joyce, it seems to make sense that the Left would be the reflection - so that the book titles read backward. And, the right side - with fewer books in view - would read correctly - provide an understanding of some of the titles, while having to work for understanding of the remaining titles.
With Adobe Illustrator I added book titles. Book colors match the text description (when color was part of the Joyce description). Visually - I like the planning. The flat graphics do not hold my interest. I also have too many books to capture the passage correctly. I do think the visual would work better as a photo. I don't want to have to find the original books, but can use old books to set the scene - and with Photoshop redo the titles. One of the books is "wrapped and brown paper - with red ink handwritten title" -
From this sketch - I think I will set up a photo shot of old books - and go from there. Doing the sketch up has been useful to visualize the image that I want.
